"I was offered a new 2-year deal by @CNN boss Jeff Zucker to host 40 big interview 'specials,'" he tweeted. "But after considerable thought, I decided not to accept it - and to try pastures new."

Piers went on to praise the network and expressed gratitude to the bosses who were behind his talk show "Piers Morgan Live," which aired for more than 400 episodes from January 2011 to March 2014 and replaced "Larry King Live" following King's retirement.

"I had a fantastic time in my 4 years @CNN and have huge respect for Jeff & all the people who work there. Great company, great network," the former talent judge continued.

Morgan, who is a longstanding opponent of guns and gun lobbying, took parting shots at the National Rifle Association (NRA).

"I wouldn't crack the champagne open too quickly though, @NRA - I haven't finished with you lot yet," Morgan wrote.

Throughout his talk show's run, Morgan interviewed various guests including politicians, celebrities, as well as common citizens.

It was in February 2014 when the network cancelled its airing after its faillure to draw viewers. But speculations strongly suggested that the reason for the flop was his "outlandish views towards celebrities" of which he showed by banning names including Madonna and Hugh Grant calling them "irritant" and "tedious," respectively.

He was also alienated by many Americans for his vocal anti-gun opinions.
