'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' News, Update: Plot Synopsis for 'Dead Men Tell No Tales' Released

Let the waiting games begin: Disney announced this week that production for the next installment of the hit swashbuckling adventure franchise called "Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales" has finally commenced on its reported location in Australia.

Along with the news, the Mouse House released the official synopsis for the fifth sequel of the blockbuster film which in turn offers insights about a certain legendary item as well as Javier Bardem's villainous character.

"Thrust into an all-new adventure, a down-on-his-luck Captain Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill-fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea … including him. Captain Jack's only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas."

As what earlier casting rumors suggest, new actors are coming over for the upcoming film. These include Brenton Thwaites from "The Giver," Kaya Scodelario of "The Maze Runner" as well as the "No Country for Old Men" star Bardem.

Joining them is the returning PoTC characters to be played by franchise lead Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, and Stephen Graham as Scrum.

The production will be spearheaded by Jerry Bruckheimer as its exec producer, "Kon-Tiki" duo Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning as directors and Jeff Nathanson for the screenplay.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is expected to open in theaters July 7, 2017.
