Reports from South Africa reveal that police found a bloodied cricket bat at the home of Oscar Pistorius that was allegedly used during her death.
Reeva Steenkamp, Pistorius'model girlfriend, was found dead in the Olympian's home on Valentine's Day with four gunshot wounds. Police also stated that she had also suffered trauma from several severe blows to her head and that her skull had been crushed, according to South Africa's Independent City Press newspaper.
"There was lots of blood on the bat," one source was quoted as saying.
Local police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Steenkamp's death, but so far have not released nay additional information regarding the investigation.
"The suspicion is that the first shot, in the bedroom, hit her in the hip. She then ran and hid herself in the toilet ... He fired three more shots," a police source told City Press.
Oscar Pistorius was charged with murdering his girlfriend at his home in Pretoria, South Africa. Pistorius came to fame at the 2012 Olympics when he won three medals in the Paralympic Games in London.
Reeva Steenkamp was planning a Valentine's Day surprise and could have mistakenly shot by Pistorius when she entered his home, according to CNN. In South Africa, many residents own guns in order to defend themselves against intruders; in this case, though, Steenkamp was possibly an innocent victim.
"There are witnesses and they have been interviewed this morning," police brigadier Denise Beukes told reporters outside Pistorius' home. "We are talking about neighbors and people that heard things earlier in the evening and when the shooting took place. At this stage he is on his way to a district surgeon for medical examination and will be appearing at the Pretoria Magistrate Court at 2 p.m. this afternoon."
"We are all devastated," Steenkamp's agent told Reuters. "Her family is in shock. They did have a good relationship. Nobody actually knows what happened."
