Pittsburgh Pirates vs St Louis Cardinals takes place in Game 1 of the NLDS as the MLB 2013 postseason gets started with a bang. This best of five series should be a great one to watch and it's hard to call which way things will go, as both teams have done well through the season to get to this point. The game will start at 5 p.m. ET and can be watched online through live stream (details below).
The Wild Card Games are now out of the way and it's down to the serious business now, as postseason series action gets underway.
The Pirates will go on the road to the Cardinals in St Louis on Thursday, and the teams will need no introduction to one another. They will be familiar with each other having played each other 19 times through the season.
Things were very evenly split, with the Pirates claiming the marginal advantage, winning 10 of their 19 games against the Cardinals, where as the Cardinals won 9. However, it should also be pointed out that the Cardinals in fact outscored the Pirates by two through the regular season series.
The last time these teams met in St Louis, the Cardinals swept the Pirates across three games, and it wasn't even close. The Cardinals outscored the Pirates by 26-10.
Pitching will of course be key to the result tonight, and the match up on the mound this Thursday will see Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright (19-9, 2.94 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 219 K in 241 2/3 IP) against veteran A.J. Burnett (10-11, 3.30 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 209 K in 191 IP).
