PlayStation Plus vs. Xbox Live Games with Gold: Battle of October 2016 Free Games; Titles Include 'Resident Evil,' 'The Escapists' and More

It's the beginning of the month again and games that come with the premium gaming subscription services also make their appearance. Today, we pit the October roster of PlayStation Plus Games against the Xbox Live Games with Gold.

PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection vs. Xbox Live Games with Gold

On paper, PlayStation Plus easily trumps Xbox Live Games with Gold due to the sheer number of game offerings. Sony's subscription service brings a total of six free games per month, whereas the Microsoft service offers only four. These games, however, are split into different platforms (two each for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita for PlayStation Plus; Xbox One and Xbox 360 for Xbox Live Games with Gold).

Survival of the Fittest

The PlayStation Plus offering for the PlayStation 4 platform gains an advantage here. With "Resident Evil HD" already having a familiar branding to it, fans have made this entire franchise the benchmark for horror survival games.

However, the Ubisoft video game for the Xbox roster "I Am Alive" is no slouch either. The dystopian survival game setting gives a glimpse of humanity's dark side during a post-apocalyptic period.

Racing Madness

Any game subscription service would never be complete without a racing game on the mix. The Xbox October free game "MX vs ATV Reflex" is part of a popular racing game franchise, but adds a few tricks up its sleeves. The game itself gains unbelievably accurate and precise gaming controls on the road.

PlayStation's "Mad Riders" also offer a lot to the racing arena. The exciting new features allow for aerial stunts and several boosts that would truly glue the players to the game.

Visual Treats

"The Escapists" instantly brings nostalgia to the Xbox gamers. This prison simulation and escape game features a 16-bit graphic style that allows the player to focus more on the game objectives rather than the visuals.

Meanwhile, the "Code: Realize ~Guardian of Rebirth~" for the PS Vita offers the opposite. The stunning visual novel aesthetic of the game might take the players aback for giving off a manga-style treat. Aside from this, the game also packs an exhilarating story of saving the protagonist with a deadly touch.

Sports, Action, God Game, and Text

What's unique about the Xbox Live Games with Gold roster this month is the inclusion of a sports game. "Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings" brings exactly what the title implies. The fluid graphics coupled with accurate physics gives the game a truly immersive gaming experience.

PlayStation Plus then offers the action game "Transformers: Devastation" from the popular franchise. Players can also fight nature to save their civilization in the modern god-game "From Dust". Lastly, PS Vita gamers can revel in the text-based wonder of "Actual Sunlight" to save the life of the main character.
