'Pokémon GO' Gen 2 Patch Update, Gameplay Features: How to Evolve Eevee Into Either Espeon or Umbreon

Niantic's popular location-based augmented reality game "Pokémon GO" has just released its most awaited update and added about 80 more new Pokémon in the wild. But the treats will not stop there.

This new batch of featured Pokémon reportedly includes those that have originally been discovered in the Johto region in the older video games "Pokémon Gold" and "Pokémon Silver." Aside from new species to catch and train, the game has also ushered in some new features to enhance the trainer's gameplay experience.

BGR reported that one of the earliest tricks trainers discovered right after the current update was launched was a surefire way to evolve Eevee into either one of its newly released evolutions: Espeon and Umbreon. While the trick requires some criteria to be met before it works effectively, these are nothing that a determined trainer has not yet done for his or her other Pokémon before.

For an Eevee to qualify for evolution into either Espeon or Umbreon, a trainer needs to first walk 10 kilometers and collect two candies with the Eevee as a Buddy. This Eevee should also be set as the trainer's Buddy during the evolution. Evolving an Eevee in the morning will most likely result to an Espeon, while a nocturnal evolution will lead to an Umbreon.

Trainers at the Pokémon Go Hub have discovered another way to ensure that the Eevee turns into a particular evolution. Biving Eevee the nickname "Sakura" will make it evolve into Espeon, while nicknaming an Eevee "Tamao" ensures that it turns into an Umbreon.

The nicknames serve as a nod to the two Kimono sisters, Sakura and Tamao, from the Pokémon anime adaptation. Sakura's Pokemon of choice was, of course, Espeon, while Tamao's was an Umbreon.

But while nicknaming an Eevee provides a fast and easy way to evolve it, this trick can only be used once for each evolution.
