'Pokemon GO' Release Date News: Is An Early 2016 Release Still Possible?

In a few days, it will already be February and nearer to the end of the first quarter of 2016, which is usually what is referred to as "early" 2016. But the Pokemon Company has yet to make any official announcements about when their much-awaited mobile game "Pokemon GO" will be released. In the meantime, only the rumor mill is the source of information for Pokemon fans.

According to a report in PC Advisor UK, earlier rumors of a November and a December 2015 release date are obviously false. Now, several reports are circulating about when exactly in early 2016 the game will drop.

One of the rumors point to a February 27, 2016 release, which happens to coincide with Pokemon's 20th anniversary making it sound credible. Twenty years ago, the first Pokemon game was released and Pokemon, as previously reported, has big plans for commemorating its anniversary, and one of them may be the release of "Pokemon GO." This rumor is also backed by the fact that the game is reportedly ending a closed beta after the start of the New Year. Another report points to an April 20, 2016 release which is indicated in a listing in the site AndroidFreeDownload. This report, however, is not supported by any other reports.

The release of the game is a pioneering feat in mobile gaming, being the company's first-ever augmented reality to be developed. Game developer Niantic is at the forefront of this new trend in mobile gaming and according to a report in the Express, the developer is already looking at expanding their business of "real-world" games, which makes use of augmented reality and mapping. Niantic is known for its work with Ingress, an online multiplayer location-based game which also makes use of augmented reality.

"Pokemon GO" allow players to find and catch Pokemon in the real world. Once caught, these pocket monsters can be trained and traded with other players. Special "live" events and gyms will also be conducted in different locations.
