'Pokémon GO' Tips, Tricks and Cheats: How to Get the Most out of Water Festival Update

The latest event for the mobile game "Pokémon GO," called the Water Festival, has officially gone live.

The Water Festival kicked off on Wednesday, March 22 to commemorate World Water Day — an event initiated by the United Nations to increase awareness on the global clean water crisis. The event is scheduled to end after one week.

With only a week of increased opportunities to capture water-type Pokémon, "Pokémon GO" gamers must not only use the Water Festival event as a chance to catch as many Pokémon as they can, they can also use this as a chance to learn how to catch smarter.

While participating in the Water Festival, there are a few tips and tricks that "Pokémon GO" players must keep in mind to maximize their Pokémon-catching experience, according to Mic.

For example, a "Pokémon GO" player can use the pinap berries to get additional candies. Ordinarily, razz berries are used by some gamers to make Pokémon easier to catch. However, since the Water Festival guarantees increased spawn rates for water-type Pokémon, gamers will want to use pinap berries on those water-type Pokémon.

This move will prove invaluable in evolving the Pokémon in one's possession to their final form, which requires 100 candies each. Players get additional candies when they catch a Pokémon they have fed the pinap berries too. As such, feeding pinap berries to Totodiles and Squirtles will be worth the effort instead of just using a razz berry.

Another important tip that gamers must remember is to visit PokéStops as frequently as they can. This is usually a recommended practice in every event but it is more crucial during the Water Festival since players are likely to catch more Pokémon than usual. And since some gamers might prefer to use pinap berries more than razz berries, they could be dependent on great or ultra balls in order to capture Pokémon.

It is also a good move to head to the nearest body of water for the duration of the Water Festival. This will increase a player's chances of encountering Gen 2 Pokémon and filling out one's Pokédex with Gen 2 water-type Pokémon.

The Water Festival is scheduled to end on Wednesday, March 29 at 4 p.m. EDT.
