'Pokémon GO' Update News: Festive Hat-Wearing Pikachus Available Until March 6

Niantic Labs came up with another festive event in honor of Pokémon Day, Feb. 27. "Pokémon GO" is celebrating the occasion by releasing a special Pikachu wearing different party hats.

The appearance of these special Pikachus everywhere was announced via the "Pokémon GO" website. In partnership with The Pokémon Company International, Niantic Labs is celebrating Pokémon Day from Feb. 26 to March 6.

"Special Pikachu appearing all over the world will be celebrating Pokémon Day by wearing festive party hats," the post reads. "These special Pikachu will keep their party hats forever, but they can only be found during this limited-time celebration, so make sure to keep an eye out for them as you explore!"

The event lasts until 1:00 p.m. PST (4 p.m. EST) on March 6.

Hat-wearing Pikachus are not the only new feature of the augmented-reality mobile game, though. As previously reported, new Pokémon from the Johto region are already available within the game, with over 80 of them out there in the wild. Players have been expecting Gen 2 Pokémon for a while now, and Niantic Labs finally caved in recently by introducing them to their millions of users.

Fans of the "Pokémon Gold" and "Pokémon Silver" games will recognize these new Pokémon since they were featured in those titles before. Apart from that, new Berries have also been added to make gameplay more exciting. As trainers know, not all Pokémon are easy to catch. Some require the use of Berries in order to make things simpler. For this reason, Nanab and Pinap Berries have found their way to the game.

These new Gen 2 Pokémon can either be caught in the wild or evolved. In order to do the latter, some existing Pokémon are required. A number of Kanto region Pokémon can be evolved to their Johto region counterparts.
