'Pokémon GO' Water Festival Event: Rare Water Pokémon in the Wild; Shinies Introduced Starting With Golden Magikarp

Niantic Labs is giving "Pokémon GO" trainers better chances to capture some of the rarest and hardest to find Pokémon in its Water Festival event.

As the name suggests, its focus will be the water Pokémon. The event is in the final two days so those who have yet to take advantage of it should make sure they do so.

The "Pokémon GO" Water Festival event will see more water-based pocket monsters more in the wild, giving players the unique opportunity to get the likes of Magikarp and its evolution, Gyarados.

The former even comes with a shiny version, which fans of the "Pokémon" handheld games know is a big deal. Such variant is a sign of rareness and catching one will be a sure achievement.

Magikarp happens to be the first Pokémon in "Pokémon GO" to get a shiny counterpart, marking the introduction of shinies to the hit augmented reality game.

Many hoped and expected to see this type of Pokémon find their way to "Pokémon GO" and it looks like this is the first step Niantic is taking to make this happen.

When evolved to Gyarados, the golden Magikarp retains the unique coloring as well. Although the Water Festival event will make it more likely to come across one, it will still be a challenge.

One Redditor discovered that there is only one in 220 attempts to get a shiny Magikarp in "Pokémon GO." It sounds hectic already, but this is nothing compared with the original games.

With that in mind, players are expected to be patient in waiting for their chance to get a golden Magikarp. Now would be a good time to try since there are only two days left in the Water Festival event.

Other Pokémon that fans can look forward to see in abundance during this "Pokémon GO" event include Squirtle and evolutions Wartortle and Blastoise, Totodile and evolutions Croconaw and Feraligatr, and Lapras.

Some Gen 2 Johto Pokémon that will be easier to find during this event are Chinchou and evolution Lanturn, Marill and evolution Azumarill Wooper and evolution Quagire, Quilfish, Corsola, Remoraid and evolution Octillery, and Mantine.
