'Pokémon Trading Card Game': New 'Sun and Moon' Expansion Pack Launches in May

The next expansion for the "Pokémon Trading Card Game" finally has an official release date.

Dubbed "Sun & Moon — Guardians Rising," the card series expansion is scheduled be released in May. The upcoming card set will include more than 140 cards and will also feature several new cards based on the Pokémon first introduced in the "Pokémon Sun and Moon" video games.

Some of the Pokémon to appear in the new "Sun & Moon" card series are Kommo-o, Lycanroc and Vikavolt. The new set will also include the Island Guardians, Tapu Koko and Tapu Lele, which are very powerful GX cards.

The "Guardians Rising" expansion will also arrive with two theme decks — the Hidden Moon deck and the Steel Sun deck. Each of the themes features one of the two mascot Legendary Pokémon. The Hidden Moon theme will feature Lunala, while the Steel Sun theme showcases Solgaleo.

Like every other expansion to the "Pokémon TCG," the upcoming "Sun & Moon" card sets will also come with its own set of special tins as well as an Elite Trainer Box.

The reveal of the "Guardians Rising" card expansion follows the release of the initial "Pokémon TGC: Sun & Moon" card series in North America last February.

Aside from the new updates to "Pokémon Trading Card Game," fans of the "Pokémon Monster" franchise have plenty to look forward to with recent rumblings that a new "Pokemon" game will be developed for the Nintendo Switch. According to a report by GameRant, insiders claim that a project is already well under way and has been given the codename "Pokemon Stars."

The "Sun & Moon — Guardians Rising" expansion for the "Pokemon Trading Card Game" will arrive in the United States, Canada and Europe on May 5. The card expansion set has already been released in Japan.
