'Power Rangers' Movie Moving Forward As Casting Is Complete

"The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" are ready for their big-screen comeback. The movie adaptation/remake of the adventure TV series has completed their cast, according to a report in Den of Geek. The report also noted that instead of creating new characters, the movie will be using the original character names of the Rangers, namely Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy & Trini.

The cast members are Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger and Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger. Most of the actors have a few acting credits and are relatively new to feature films.

The report continued by sharing the official synopsis of the movie: "From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world."

Even though the cast members are relative unknowns, the movie's executive producers and screenwriters are not. Orci is known for his work in "Transformers," "Star Trek," and "Amazing Spider-Man 2" while screenwriters Stentz and Miller wrote for "X-Men: First Class," and "Thor."

Dean Israelite is helming the movie which is a collaboration between Saban Productions and Lionsgate. It will bow in movie theaters on January 13, 2017.

The film was originally scheduled for release in summer 2016, but according to Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairman Rob Friedman, they needed to move the date. To explain this, he said: "We're very excited and with Dean's vision; we felt very comfortable looking for opportunistic dating. We really believe that great movies deliver no matter what date they're on."

"The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" was a television action series for children in the 1990s created by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy.
