Recap of Wednesday's draw

Last Wednesday, the winning numbers were 9, 11, 25, 64, and 65, while the Powerball was 16. The Powerplay multiplier was at 3x.

No one was able to bring home Wednesday's pot, which was at $127-million with a cash payout of $87.8-million. Two players, however, were able to match all five white balls to bring home $1-million, though they missed the chance to double their winnings by not playing the Power Play option, according to the Powerball website.

Meanwhile, fourteen players were able to match four white balls, with four of them able to increase their earnings by playing the Powerball.

More than $6.6-million was paid to winning players as more than 580,000 players won the non-jackpot prizes.

How the Powerball works

The Powerball game is quite simple: with a $2 ticket, players can submit five numbers for the white balls from one to 68, and another number for the red Powerball from one to 25. They can win by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball number.

According to Powerball, the odds of picking the correct Powerball jackpot combination are one in over 290 million. Players can buy a Powerball ticket at $2, while the Powerball option is at an extra $1.

Like the Mega Millions, there are nine ways a player can win the Powerball lottery. The grand prize is won by matching all five white balls plus the Powerball. The second prize, pegged at $1 million, is won by matching all five white balls.

Meanwhile, the third prize amounting to $50,000 is won by matching four white balls and the Powerball. The fourth and fifth prize can be won by matching four white balls or the three white balls and the red Powerball for $100, while the sixth to ninth prizes are less than $10 each. All non-jackpot prizes can be multiplied by availing of the Power Play option.

So far, the highest Powerball jackpot was worth nearly $1.6-billion, which was won last January 13 drawing in the largest lotto awarding in U.S. history. The pot was split by three winners.
