PresbyNet schedules 2nd Iraq 'chat'

LOUISVILLE - The Presbyterian Peacemaking Program (PPP), in cooperation with PresbyNet, the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s computer communication network, is sponsoring a second "live chat" on Iraq on April 10 at noon (EDT).

Dozens of PresbyNetters participated in the first "International Voices on Iraq" e-conversation on March 13. Like the first chat, "International Voices on Iraq II" will feature Christian and Muslim partners of the PC(USA) from around the world.

Some will be members of the Interfaith Listening teams that toured several U.S. presbyteries last fall in a program sponsored by the Interfaith Relations Office in the Worldwide Ministry Division; PPP, part of the Congregational Ministries Division; and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. It put together two-person teams - one Christian, one Muslim - that came to the United States from 10 countries to talk about how they had learned to work together.

International Peacemakers and other international partners also will take part in the live chat.

"Standing in other people's shoes starts with listening to them, so it is critical for us as Christians to hear the voices of people of faith around the world at this perilous time," said Ervin Bullock, PPP's associate for network support, one of the chat organizers.

Bullock said she hopes such chats on war and peace in Iraq will become a monthly feature on PresbyNet.

To join "International Voices on Iraq II," go to the PCUSA home page, www.pcusa.org, click on "presbynet," and follow the easy instructions.
