Prince Death News: Musician's Sister Says There's No Will, Files Legal Documents for Probate Case

On Tuesday, Tyka Nelson, Prince's only full sibling, filed paperwork t Minnesota's Carver County, asking for the court to appoint an overseer for the famed musician's estate as it turns out that he left no will before he passed away at 57 years of age.

According to The Huffington Post, Nelson said in the documents: "I do not know of the existence of a will and have no reason to believe that the decedent executed testamentary documents in any form."

Under Minnesota's law, if there is no will that emerges as the court hears the probate case, Prince's estate would have to be handed over to Nelson and his half-siblings: John Nelson, Norrine Nelson, Sharon Nelson, Alfred Jackson, and Omar Baker, who have also been listed in Nelson's filing.

Estate planner and author of "Trial and Heirs" Danielle Mayoras told CNN, "Just because she thinks there's no will, doesn't mean there's no trust out there." Estate transfers when it comes to celebrities are always stressful even if a will emerges soon.

The outlet notes that once the probate court starts investigating about Nelson's claims, legitimacy will have to be investigated and a lot of such cases are open for public scrutiny, meaning details about the exact scope of the late singer's estate will be made public. On the other hand, some judges can decide to seal the documents and no information will be aired to the masses.

Prince's Paisley Park home, the same place where he was found unresponsive in an elevator, is said to be valued at $27 million. He has thousands of unreleased songs and previous estimates suggest that he is worth around $300 million.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nelson's filing comes just less than a week after news circulated about the "Purple Rain" singer's death. His passing left the world in grief and in just three days, his fandom showed their love and respect for the entertainer as it is estimated that about $2.3 million has been obtained through his sales of his songs since his death on Thursday.
