Prince New Album 2015 news: Launching New Album Exclusively on Tidal Streaming Service

Prince is returning to the music scene with a new album titled HitNRun, which he plans to release exclusively on Tidal.

American singer and songwriter Prince will be releasing a rock album HitNRun with his back-up band 3rdEyeGirl, which will exclusively stream on Tidal starting Sept. 7 this year.

The 57-year-old "Purple Rain" singer had briefly considered launching his upcoming album on Spotify, after he earlier released his new single, "Stare" via the rival streaming service, but changed his mind and committed HitNRun for release on the Jay-Z-backed music platform instead.

Last month, Prince started pulling his entire catalog of music from most of the major streaming services, including Apple Music and Spotify. He left the rest of his work with Google Play Music and Tidal.

Prince has been working with Tidal for the last few months, holding a live "Rally 4 Peace" benefit concert from Baltimore in May in response to the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old African-American who succumbed to spinal cord injuries while in police custody. The show was streamed exclusively on Tidal as free music.

While the celebrated funk rock musician has yet to release the track list for his new album, the cover art has already made the rounds online, including a released statement from Prince's explaining how HitNRun took only 90 days to produce starting from its conception.

Prince's statement also applauded Jay-Z and his team for recognizing the effort artists and musicians put towards their craft, and thanking Tidal for a "non-restrictive arrangement" to allow Prince to create music in the fashion he is accustomed to.

HitNRun is co-produced by Joshua Welton, and includes "Hardrocklover," a single performed by Prince's 3rdEyeGirl that first came to light during a BBC interview a month ago.
