Pro-Lifers Rally, March on 'Roe' Anniversary Weekend

Pro-life groups, including Protestant and Catholic organizations, will be reminding the nation of their affirmation of life in marches across the country this weekend and Monday.

Pro-life groups, including Protestant and Catholic organizations, will be reminding the nation of their affirmation of life in marches across the country this weekend and Monday with the anniversary of the 1973 Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision that nationalized abortion falling on Sunday.

One of the larger events Monday will be the March for Life in Washington, D.C. Nellie Gray, President of the March for Life, has organized the event every year since 1973.

"We pledge support to stop this home-grown terrorism of persons and public and private officials participating in the intentional killing of an estimated 4,000 pre-born humans each day,” Gray said on Saturday in a statement, adding that President Bush has been invited to attend. On Friday, the President issued a statement declaring January 22, National Sanctity of Human Life Day.

Pro-life groups point out that since abortion was nationalized, nearly 50 million abortions have taken place.

The Washington event, whose theme this year is “Roe v. Wade Violates the American Way,” has received the support of several legislators who will attend, along with national pro-family groups such as the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America who have pledged to open up their offices for those marchers who want to visit. They will be offering warm drinks and some snacks.

In San Francisco thousands of pro-life feminists and supporters will walk along San Francisco's water front in the Second Annual Walk for Life West Coast. The event last year drew 7,500 walkers. The three main speakers for a rally which starts at 11 a.m. will be Serrin M. Foster, the president of Feminists for Life of America; the Rev. Clenard Childress, North East regional director of the Life Education and Resource Network, who also founded BlackGenocide.org; and Star Parker, founder and president of Coalition on Urban renewal and Education.

Childress and Parker will be drawing attention to the disproportionate number of abortions among African Americans who are just 12 percent of the total population. The theme for this year's event in San Francisco is "Women Deserve Better than Abortion," the signature slogan for Feminists for Life.

In Los Angeles, pro-life Catholics will meet at the Los Angeles Cathedral and the walk through the streets of Downtown L.A. with pro-life signs to pray for an end to abortion.

"The 2006 Life Chain will be a reflection of the cultural diversity of the Catholic Church which is uniting in prayer to end the 33-year slaughter of our unborn brothers and sisters. Hispanics in particular are overwhelmingly pro-life," stated Astrid Bennett Gutierrez, board member of the Los Angeles Archdiocese Commission for Catholic Life Issues and Hispanics for Llife, which is sponsoring the event.

Pro-Life signs will be held in English and Spanish with messages such as "Abortion Kills Children" and "Jesus Forgives and Heals,” according to a news release.

Cardinal Roger Mahony, the Archbishop of Los Angeles, endorsed the event – set to start at 2 p.m. in the plaza of the Los Angeles Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels downtown. There will be a closing ceremony at 3:45 p.m. after the march.
