PS4 Software Update to Incorporate Features Based on User Feedback

A PS4 software update was announced by Sony that will include newer features based on user feedback.

Sony's Scott McCarthy detailed some of the changes that will come with this new firmware labeled 1.70. One of these additions includes a feature called SHAREfactory which is a new rich video editor app for PS4 that makes it easy for players to customize their gameplay videos.

Another addition allows players to not only upload their SHAREfactory videos directly to Facebook, but to also be able to store them on an external device.

"Other PS4 SHARE enhancements include the ability to change the recording time of your gameplay to shorter increments, the ability to change who you share your clips with on the SHARE screen, and the removal of default saves for screenshots and video clips," said McCarthy.

The update will also allow users to switch off HDCP in order to enable them to capture video directly from their HDMI output so they can record and share longer clips of their gameplay sessions.

Users will now be able to download games early. Those with the new software can pre-load the games they pre-order which provides players with quicker access to their purchase. PS4 users will no longer have to wait until the title becomes available in the PlayStation Store to download it.

An exact roll out date for the software was not announced.

The PS4 console was released towards the end of last year and recently reached a milestone by selling over 7 million units in a short amount of time. Sony revealed this information earlier this week.

The company also announced that over 20.5 million games for the system have been sold both at digital and at retail. It is currently outselling the Wii U and Xbox One.
