‘Puss in Boots’ Early Reviews Predict Film to Sweep Box Office

DreamWorks’ new animated film “Puss in Boots” is slated to sweep box office earnings Friday.

The film is predicted to beat weekend releases “The Rum Diary” and “In Time,” as well as already-released films “Footloose” and “Paranormal Activity 3”.

Hollywood stars Salma Hayek, Antonio Banderas, Billy Bob Thornton, and Zach Galifianakis lend their voices to the film that is rated PG and available in 3-D.

The film title is also the name of the main character that was featured in the DreamWorks’ blockbuster “Shrek.” Charles Perrault wrote the tale of a devious and the clever cat during the seventeenth century in France and it became an instant success.

Featured under the placard “Mother Goose Tales,” “Puss in Boots” is internationally known character. The puss in boots also appears in the third act of Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Sleeping Beauty,” and many other media appearances.

The online movie review service, Rotten Tomatoes, revealed that early movie critics graded “Puss in Boots” with 7.1 points out of 10.

“For quick, lively, family friendly entertainment, ‘Puss in Boots’ works just fine, even in 3-D, which is integrated thoughtfully into the narrative and doesn’t just feel like a gimmick,” wrote Christy Lemire from The Associated Press via Rotten Tomatoes.

Lemire added in the long form review that the film is rated PG in lieu of “some adventure action and mild rude humor.”

Drew McWeeny from HitFlix wrote: “It is a very still film, a big adventure movie, and surprisingly effective.”

In a mixed review from MSN Movies, Glenn Kenny wrote: “…simple, sincere, and largely innocent.”
