Qiku's Q Terra Smartphone Arrives In India

Another Chinese device manufacturer has released a smartphone with high end specs without the high end price in India. Called the Q Terra, the phone is manufactured by Qiku and will cost Rs. 21,999 or around $329. According to a report in Tech Times, Qiku is a joint venture between manufacturer Coolpad Group and a global Internet company named Qihoo 360 Technology. The company said that the new smartphone will have similar specs with those made by Xiaomi and OnePlus but will have the advantage of being cheaper.

Qiku India's CEO Varun Sharma said that the Q Terra is their answer to the increasing number of Indian consumers who "are becoming evolved users of smartphones and need a premium experience." The Q Terra will offer "the best in class experience at an affordable price."

The device comes with a 6-inch full HD IPS display. Under the hood, it is powered by a hexa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor clocked at 1.82 GHz, paired with 3 GB of RAM. Internal storage is at 16 GB and is expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card.

Camera-wise, Q Terra is said to have not just one but two main cameras with 13 megapixels capacity. One is a color sensor camera with "40 percent ambient brightness and a low light noise reduction of 78 percent." The other camera is a black and white one. When both cameras are used together, they are said to produce high-quality images. The phone's secondary selfie camera is an 8 megapixel shooter.

A 3,600 mAh battery powers the device, which is also said to be equipped with fast charging technology that guarantees a full charge in only 70 minutes. Its security feature is the fingerprint scanner found at the back, which unlocks the phone within half a second.

Connectivity options for the phone will include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. The phone comes pre-installed with 360 OS, an OS based on the Android 5.1 Lollipop. Unlike other phones where pre-installed apps cannot be deleted, the Q Terra will allow its owners to delete any of the pre-installed apps that they do not need.

A release date has yet to be announced for the device. The phone's invite-only model will be sold for only Rs. 19,999.
