Rachel McAdams In Early Talks to Join 'Doctor Strange' Cast

Rachel McAdams, who is currently involved in Season 2 of "True Detective," is said to be in early talks to join the cast of the upcoming Marvel movie "Doctor Strange." She confirmed that she has been talking to the studio apparently to take on the female lead of the project. If she does get the stint, she will be playing opposite Benedict Cumberbatch, who was named for the lead character Doctor Strange.

According to a Variety report, McAdams also said that it was still "super-early days" and that did not know where it was heading. She said, "I don't where that's gonna go, if it's gonna go anywhere at all."

It is not yet known what exactly her role will be, if indeed a role will eventually be offered to her. If she does join the cast, she will be joining other cast members who have already been confirmed to be part of the movie's cast. These include Tilda Swinton, who is reported to play the Ancient One, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who is reported to play Baron Mordo, Doctor Strange's archenemy.

Benedict Cumberbatch is set to play Doctor Stephen Vincent Strange, a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon, who after an accident is no longer able to do surgeries. In his search for meaning in his life, he encounters the Ancient One, who then teaches him the ways of "sorcery, mysticism and martial arts." He eventually becomes Sorcerer Supreme who must protect the Earth from evil magic.

The movie is based on the Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in the early 1960s.

The current screenplay is being written by Jon Spaihts. The movie had a first script draft that was written by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer. It will be helmed by Scott Derickson, with Kevin Feige of Marvel as producer.

The movie will bow in theaters on Nov. 4, 2016.
