Reach Out
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 (NRSV)
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help. Again, if two lie together, they keep warm; but how can one keep warm alone? And though one might prevail against another, two will withstand one. A threefold cord is not quickly broken.
The psalmist wrote, "My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me."

OKAY Daniel, let's go." I extended my arm, and my little brother reached out and took my hand. I looked both ways down the street and waited for a clearing. As we crossed the street, I told Daniel not to cross any street without first taking my hand so that I could watch over him. He smiled and looked at me with one of those six-year-old "I wonder why" looks.
Regardless of where we were going -- shopping, crossing the street, or just walking around -- Daniel always reached out for my hand. Usually he would reach out first, and out of habit I would extend my arm and find him latching on to my hand. Holding my hand was something that seemed to make Daniel feel secure and special. He knew that my hand would always be there for him to hold, no matter where we were.
When we need reassurance, we want someone to extend a hand for us to latch on to, whether it is a family member or a close friend. There is another hand we can reach for in hard times -- God's hand. God guides us in the bad times and in the good times. All we have to do is reach out.
Prayer: Faithful God, thank you for your love and reassurance as we place our lives into your hands. Amen.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Sometimes we are God's hand.
