'Kubo and the Two Strings' Takes Everyone to an Epic Adventure in Mystic Ancient Japan

Kubo will battle monsters, a vengeful king, and other gods to fulfill his legacy.

Laika and Focus Features' epic adventure film, "Kubo and the Two Strings", is an animated movie set in the fantastical land of ancient Japan. It digs deep into that time's mysticism and narrates the adventure of the humble warrior Kubo and his two loyal companions.

Movie Synopsis

Kubo is a kindhearted and bright guy who makes a living by telling stories to people on his side of the seashore. While going about his storytelling one day, Kubo accidentally calls a spirit from the past and little does he know that his life will never be the same again. The spirit wants to exact an age-old vendetta, which Kubo will counteract by joining forces with the charismatic Beetle and the naughty Monkey.

There begins their thrilling adventure of saving the family. They will also have to solve the mystery of Kubo's past, including that of his father, who was considered as the greatest Samurai of his time.

In order to battle monsters, the vengeful Moon King, the evil twin sisters and other gods, Kubo has to use a magical instrument called the shamisen. His mission is to break the secret of his legacy which will reunite him with his family, and therefore make him fulfill his destiny.

Voice Actors

Beetle and Monkey are voiced by Matthew Mc Conaughey and Charlize Theron, respectively. Art Parkinson lends his voice to Kubo.

The voice cast boasts of an impressive list of actors that include Ralph Fiennes, Rooney Mara, George Takei, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, and Brenda Vaccaro.

Movie Debut

The Chief Executive Officer of Laika Travis Knight, who also happens to be an award-winning animator, will have his directorial debut with "Kubo and the Two Strings". Everyone in the animation world cannot wait to see if the movie can match or even exceed the standout efforts of the previous Laika studio animation, Coraline and ParaNorman.
What is totally certain though is that "Kubo and the Two Strings" will take viewers into a great adventure in mystic ancient Japan. The animated film is set to be released on August 19 in U.S. theaters.
