Real Madrid Transfer and Team News 2015: Sergio Ramos Signs Contract Extension

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has silenced all the rumours by signing a new deal with the Bernabeau club – ending all speculation that he may be set to a move away from the team.

It has been a constant headline that the Spaniard was heading out of Madrid after linking him with the English club Manchester United. And with talks on his contract appearing to stall at one point, it all seemed certain that Ramos was only a few days away from flying from Spain to England for a more permanent stay.

However, the signing of the new deal and recent remarks from the defender showed that he has always wanted to stay with the La Liga giants and never wanted to see a move take place anyway.

"My happiness is here, why would I waste time anywhere else?" Ramos told AS English.

Ramos would go on to claim that his decisions were never motivated by money.

"I know this contract renewal has taken a while, but my head & heart have always been here. So I couldnt be more happy. Hala Madrid ... Money not motivator for me. I have never said I wanted to leave Madrid, am happy here, my dream would be to retire here," he continued.

"Sincerely, if it was a financial matter I would not have stayed. I could have earned more elsewhere," Ramos added.

The new deal means that Ramos will stay with the club until 2020, where he has won numerous titles with such as three La Liga titles, one UEFA Champions League honor, one UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup.

However, this should be another problem in Madrid trying to sign David de Gea from Manchester United as it is understood that United only want to deal their star goalkeeper if a trade would happen sending Ramos over to Old Trafford.

With the defender extending his stay in Spain, it makes De Gea's move to Madrid an even tougher one.
