Madrid are trying to move on from last year's disappointing performance in the competition when they were eliminated in the semi-finals by Juventus.

In that battle, Madrid lost the away leg of the match and failed to capitalise on their home grounds as they settled for a 1-1 draw to eventually lose on a 3-2 aggregate.

With the new season underway, expect Madrid to be strong and try to finish teams off early.

Add to the fact that their best player Cristiano Ronaldo scored five goals in their last game heading into the European competition, they should be feeling good about themselves.

Meanwhile, Shakhtar Donetsk were a big surprise last year as they reached the final 16 of the competition before they were eventually eliminated by Bayern Munich.

This year, they had to enter in the third qualifying round but eliminated Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce.

In the playoffs, they battled Rapid Wien and won the seat in the group stages with a 3-2 aggregate score.

Now they are in a tough group with only two places set for teams to move on in the next round. If they are able to pull a surprise win over Madrid, it could help them achieve another dream run in Europe's top flight competition.
