Religion, Public Education Expert Speaks At Roberts Wesleyan College

Roberts Wesleyan College will host one of the nation’s leading authorities on religion and public education for two talks on Wednesday.

As a writer and speaker on the contentious issues of religion and public schools in a manner that models civility and invites reasoned and thoughtful discussion, First Amendment scholar Charles Haynes will lead two sessions on Wednesday. One of the sessions, “Religion and Public Education: Finding Common Ground,” is open to the public and starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Roberts Cultural Life Center’s Hale Auditorium. A second session on “Religion and Public Education for Teachers in Training” will be presented to students and faculty from the Teacher Education divisions of Roberts Wesleyan College and Houghton College.

A number of area professional organizations are co-sponsoring Haynes’ visit, including the Monroe County School Boards Association, the Rochester Area Council for the Social Studies and the Genesee Valley Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
