Remembering the Way We Were

Titus 3:1-7

I remember many stories from my grandparents about how difficult things were for them back in the 1930s and '40s. They didn't have all of the conveniences of life that we enjoy today. They sometimes see my generation as spoiled and completely ignorant of what hard work truly is. What bothers them the most, however, is how ungrateful my generation seems to be when we have so many blessings around us.

You may be able to recall a time in your life when you lived in spiritual poverty. You remember what you were like before you experienced the transforming power of God in your salvation. As you consider your life now, you are able to notice the changes and thank God for the fact that you have indeed become a child of his.

If you ever come to the place in your Christian life when things are not exciting anymore or when things seem rather routine and mundane, try to remember the way things used to be before Christ saved you. In that remembrance, thank God for his grace and mercy and commit to live as his child.

Prayer: Lord, help me not forget how much your saving mercy means to me.
