"Resident Evil 7" PS4, PC release date news: No single-player story mode for "Umbrella Corps"

"Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps" is eagerly expected by gamers since the announcement of the upcoming game in this year's Tokyo Game Show. However, information out about it is definitely low for now, and the only details that anyone has gotten so far is from an interview by GameSpot with the game producers themselves, Masachika Kawata and James Vance.

During the brief talk with them, they revealed one major difference in Umbrella Corps, and that is the absence of a traditional single-player campaign. The upcoming competitive cover-based shooter game will be occur in the timeline of the aftermath of 2012's "Resident Evil 6".

Kawata explained that the main focus of the game will not be on its own storyline but rather the background details within the Resident Evil universe. Kawata is quoted saying, "Umbrella Corps is set in the present day of Resident Evil, which means it's after the events of Resident Evil 6. It's almost in an ironic way that we're using the title Umbrella Corps.

If you know your Resident Evil lore, Umbrella no longer exists at this time in the universe; it's been destroyed. There's definitely a kind of a background of the Resident Evil universe that forms the basis of the game's premise."

Furthermore, Vance adds that the game will revolve around the elaborate search of corporate mercenary factions around the Umbrella ruins for any lingering biotechnology experiments and research materials.

He shared, "The mercenaries are hired by these corporations […] to go into these areas where some kind of biological terror incident may have occurred to try to extract something with value. In that regard, these areas will tie into the Resident Evil universe quite strongly, and there's many things that you'll see there, that we can't reveal at this time, that have strong Resident Evil hooks."

Vance also cleared that there would be a forward-facing story will not be happening, so the only focus for the upcoming game is a multiplayer one.

For now, there is no set release date yet for the game's release, however it is expected to be digitally launched for Playstation 4 and PCs in 2016.
