'Resident Evil 7' Release Date and Features: Zombies are Coming Back to the Franchise

Fans are Delighted as Capcom Announces that Zombies Will Still be Featured on the New Game

After what seems to be a huge departure from the original series, fans of the Resident Evil franchise now have something to grasp on as Capcom has confirmed that humanoid zombies would still be part of the Resident Evil 7.

Return of the Undead

The upcoming game will still feature some forms of allusion to zombies and the undead in general. With huge leaps in its gameplay and format from previous versions, fans took Resident Evil 7 as a new frontier to a new Resident Evil lineup. However, at a conference in Japan, Capcom said that it was still committed to its original branding and gameplay.

The developer exhibited a new form of technology which has the capability to mutate some faces into their misshapen, hideous, and cringe-worthy zombie versions. Capcom then assured its fans that Resident Evil 7 will indeed have zombie enemies and villains, as well as some additional humanoid adversaries. What the developers are experimenting on now is how to create these creatures.

Up to this point, the humanoid enemies seems to be created manually by hand with the use of 3D models. This would be the case if the new technology being utilized by the developer could not fully reconstruct the desired outcome. Most of the creature models were physically created, some with actual meat.

Make-up artists made the models and actors look gruesome, fit for the game, which where than scanned through photogrammetry. However, the huge demand for equipment made it impossible to transport for further location research, prompting the developers to model some assets by hand.

The new game will also feature the atmosphere of every location as a significant aspect of the gameplay, as Capcom hopes to make Resident Evil 7 look and feel more like a real horror movie. With this, development of the game even includes real set actors being recreated to produce their humanoid zombie counterparts.

Resident Evil: Biohazard

The Resident Evil 7 is the 11th installment to the principal Resident Evil franchise. It will officially be called "Resident Evil: Biohazard," and will feature an entirely new set of characters. The setting will take place immediately after the events of Resident Evil 6, with the protagonist searching for his wife, ultimately leading him to the deserted plantation mansion.

This would be the first entry to the main franchise to feature a first-person perspective gameplay. This was implemented as the game will be released to Microsoft Windows PC, the Xbox One, and the PlayStation 4, including full support of the PlayStation VR.

The game will be officially released in 2017 to all platforms. PlayStation Plus subscribers were able to download a gameplay demo last June, title Resident Evil 7 Teaser: Beginning Hour.
