'Resident Evil Zero' HD Remake in the Works

Capcom, the owner of the "Resident Evil" game series, recently announced that they are working on a High-Definition or HD remake of another game in the series. This time, it's "Resident Evil Zero" that's getting an HD remastered version.

According to a report in Cinema Blend, this decision is likely based on the success of the remastered version of "Resident Evil 1," which Capcom released early this year. This recent release broke opening-day record sales on the PlayStation Network and generally "enjoyed tremendous sales."

"Resident Evil Zero" HD is being developed for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It is a prequel to the first game, which is set in the Arklay Mountains outside of Raccoon City. The lead character, Rebecca Chambers together with other members of the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team is in search of a murderer and encounter a lot of zombies along the way. Billy Coen is the other playable team member, who is a medic and a former convict. The unique feature of the game is its "partner zapping" system, which allows players to swap between the two characters, split them up when necessary, or "use their unique abilities in order to solve puzzles."

Although Capcom has not shared specifics about the remake, they are assuring fans that the first upgrade will be in graphics. When the original game came out in 2002, it was developed exclusively for the GameCube, a sixth-generation console of Nintendo. Capcom shared a screenshot (see below) of how the game will look like once remastered.

The report says that Capcom has signed on several developers who were part of the original team who developed the 2002 game. Koji Oda, the game's original director, comes back to head the developer team assembled.

In addition to better graphics, the report also cited that the remake of "Resident Evil 1" featured "additional control options" which is expected to appear on the "Resident Evil Zero" remake as well.
