The show runners seem to be taking a practical approach this time around as they let the relationship between the two characters evolve naturally, meaning that it will take some time before they actually become involved with each other in a romantic way. Sunil Nayar spoke with TV Line and explained that the show has a bigger purpose for Ben other than being just Emily's current romantic interest:

"In the scenes they've had together so far, they've had great energy … But we want to take our time with these things; Emily has so much she's already dealing with, we don't want to be casual about the next person she chooses to give her heart to. That said, there's definitely an energy between the them that we're enjoying. We didn't bring him in to be Emily's love interest, but by the same token, we didn't not bring him on for that," said Nayar.

"Revenge" Season 4 premieres on Sept. 29 on ABC.
