God wants persistent prayers, not panic prayers. "Foxhole religion" may be alright—as long as you find yourself living in a foxhole. But what happens once the emergency is over, once the danger goes away? The kind of praying that will make a difference in our country and in ourselves is faithful, consistent, continual prayer.
The original Fulton Street prayer meetings were held at the corner of Fulton and William, just three blocks east from what is now Ground Zero. What better place to pray persistently for revival?
God answered those prayers in 1857:
To the Fulton Street Prayer Meeting: Brothers in Christ . . . some two or three weeks ago I wrote saying a small church and a cold one seeming to have had but little reviving in several years. God in great mercy has heard our pleadings . . . The church has been roused, our meetings still continue . . . the Holy Spirit seems to be moving in our midst . . . a quiet gentle moving reigns.
He can do the same today!
Prayer: Lord, in our time "reform" and "revive" us. Move us from panic to persistent prayers.
