Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III runs onto the field in Landover, Maryland September 23, 2012.

RGIII will marry girlfriend Rebecca Liddicoat this summer, according to new reports out Friday.

The Washington Redskins quarterback has dated Liddicoat for a long time now and they have been engaged already for number of years.

The news was in fact revealed Friday by Robert Griffin III's mother Jackie in an interview with Fox DC. Even though the couple got engaged way back in 2010 they have not set a date for the ceremony until now.

Mom, Jackie, did not reveal the exact date of the nuptials, but only said it would be this summer some time.

However, according to the Washington Post information was found at Bed Bath and Beyond that indicates that the wedding would take place on July 6.

Robert Griffin III played college football for Baylor University, and won the 2011 Heisman Trophy. He was selected by the Redskins with the second pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. Griffin III also won The Associated Press 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

In his younger years RGIII was a top athlete; in track, Griffin broke state records for the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

He ran the 110-meter hurdles in 13.55 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 35.33 seconds. The 300 hurdles time was 1/100th of a second short of tying the national high school record at the time. He was also a gold medalist in the 110- and 400-meter hurdles on the AAU track and field circuit.

Here is a video interview with Robert Griffin III's mom as she reveals her son will wed longtime fiancee later this summer:
