'Rick and Morty' Season 3 News, Updates, Spoilers: Producers Talk Future Storylines and Themes for Upcoming Installment; Will Mrs. Sanchez Appear?

The upcoming third installment of Adult Swim's "Rick and Morty" had fans looking forward to it for over a year now. In an interview with Den of Geek, executive producers Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon revealed that the show might be up and running by December 2017. What's more, the producers have also generously provided some spoilers and teasers for "Rick and Morty" Season 3 to tide fans over the long wait ahead!

Will there be an "Intergalactic Cable" theme in Season 3?

One recurring question among fans is if "Rick and Morty" Season 3 will be reusing the "intergalactic cable". However, Dan Harmon expressed reservations over reusing and rehashing the same material over and over again. The hesitation stemmed from previous criticism of "Community", whose jokes and humor were largely "insular" such that fans would have had to be invested in it to get the references.

Still, the producers haven't completely closed its doors on using it again for "Rick and Morty" Season 3. They confessed, however, that such a theme is "very expensive" on production, so they're still figuring it out. But should they bring it, alongside familiar characters like Mr. Meeseeks, Scary Terry, Ants in my Eyes Johnson, back for the show, Roiland and Harmon promised that they should be opening up the show's mythology rather than just servicing the fans.

What will happen to Rick?

As for Rick Sanchez's fate, the producers hinted that he may be "okay pretty quickly". Fans would remember that the mad scientist was thrown into the Galactic Federation Prison during the "Rick and Morty" season finale to protect his family. He gave himself up, proving that he does indeed have some vestiges of emotional care and support for his own.

Spoilers have already revealed that Rick will be busting out of maximum security soon. And this was backed by the producers, who said they wouldn't be spending a lot of episodes on one cliffhanger. So does this mean that Rick should have solved his legal issues at the end of the "Rick and Morty" season premiere?

Mrs. Sanchez in "Rick and Morty" Season 3

GameNGuide also reported that Mrs. Sanchez, Rick's wife, may appear in "Rick and Morty" Season 3 to assist the latter in whatever he's dealing with. It was hinted during the pilot episode that Mrs. Sanchez had died, only to find in Season 2 that Rick had actually just left her for reasons yet to be disclosed. Neither Harmon nor Roiland have confirmed this yet, but given her season-by-season development, it's likely we may get to see her in the third installment of "Rick and Morty".
