As fans eagerly await Rihanna's exclusive interview with Oprah to air, a new video snippet has surfaced which shows the singer crying while discussing her 2009 domestic violence incident involving her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
The 24-year-old pop star, who is renowned for her tough girl image, appeared fragile and emotional during her candid chat with the media mogul. Rihanna admitted to going back to Brown after he physically assaulted her because she felt sorry for him after the incident despite also being "angry" with the singer.
"I felt like the only person they hate right now is him. It was a weird, confusing space to be in because as angry as I was- as angry and hurt and betrayed- I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help," Rihanna said.
"And who's going to help him? Nobody's going to say he needs help, everybody's going to say he's a monster, without looking at the source. And I was more concerned about him," she went on.
Winfrey, along with among hoards of fans, publicly expressed disappointment at the time when reports that the pair had reconciled after the violent assault began swirling, but Rihanna explained that she was simply confused and felt a whirlwind of emotions.
"It was embarrassing, it was humiliating ... I lost my best friend," a tearful Rihanna told Winfrey. "I was resentful, I held a grudge, I was dark!"
The renowned talk show host traveled to Rihanna's native home of Barbados for the interview and she claims that no topic was off limits. In another snippet, Rihanna is seen opening up about her celebrity status.
"I am super duper terrified of the pedestal that comes with fame. It's amazing how lonely you can feel," a humble Rihanna admitted to Winfrey.
The interview is scheduled to air on Aug. 19 on the OWN network's "Oprah's Next Chapter."
