Rihanna was recently criticized over statements that she made regarding her good friend Beyonce Knowles on Sunday.

The 24-year-old tweeted a glamorous photograph of Beyonce alongside the photo caption "This pic could single handedly destroy the self esteem of an entire nation." Fans of the Bajan singer flocked to Twitter where some expressed outrage in her statement.

"How irresponsble [sic] of Rihanna to equate self-esteem with physical looks! SO superficial and immature. Grow up, what an a-- kisser!" Regina tweeted.

"Did Rihanna really say dat Beyonce's beauty could destroy the self esteem of an entire nation? Wow that what I call undiluted complement," Tommy Divine tweeted.

"Uh no Rihanna, not quite!! My self-esteem is just fine thanks. Beyonce is def [sic] not perfect so enough already. Get a self esteem girl," Claire M tweeted.

This is not the first time that one of Beyonce's friends has openly gushed over her. In early 2011, her long time friend and actress Gwyneth Paltrow called the "Single Ladies" singer "the most talented human being on the planet."

"She has so much mastery over what she does. It's not even confidence - it's on a whole other level. It's mind-blowing. I watched her (perform) a lot to see how she did it, and I was like 'S---! I can't do that!'" Paltrow said in an interview with Harper's Bazaar U.K.

In May, the 30-year-old mother of one took to the stage to perform for the first time since giving birth to her daughter Blue Ivy in January, prompting praise from her husband Jay-Z and renowned producer The Dream.

"Beyonce Is The Best Performer in the world. Period," Jay-Z tweeted.

Like Rihanna did on Sunday, The Dream, whose real name is Terius Youngdell Nash, ruffled a few feathers after praising Beyonce on Twitter.

"Beyonce Knowles may very well be the baddest [expletive] to hit the stage live since MJ! Period! Point Blank," The Dream tweeted, referring to the late Michael Jackson.

While a number of fans agreed with The Dream's tweet, other did not, and many dismissed his statement as being over-the-top and inappropriate.
