Unless you have been living under a rock these days, you have probably seen the horrific leg injury of French gymnast Samir Ait Said. Said was attempting to land on a vault when he broke his leg.

The injury was among the most horrific in Olympic competition. People who were near the incident even said that they could even hear a loud audible crack as Said broke his leg. The video and photos of the injury have gone viral.

As if that wasn't enough, there are also new reports that the ambulance crew that was taking care of Said supposedly dropped the gymnast while transporting him to the nearby hospital. Apparently, Said was strapped onto a stretcher while being loaded into a parked ambulance when the crew accidentally dropped him in an attempt to load him onto the back of the said ambulance. The gymnast was competing in the men's qualification event in Rio, Brazil when he sustained the injury. The Frenchman somersaulted over the vault and landed on his left leg. His leg broke under the weight of his own body. The gymnast then collapsed and covered his face in pain as his left leg protruded in a gruesome angle. Television crews immediately cut away after realizing the severity of the injury.

But the incident was caught on tape and pictures were taken by the hundreds of journalists in the arena. Within a few hours, the freak injury spread like wildfire on the internet and in social media, quickly becoming the most viral video of the 2016 Olympic Games. Said had previously qualified for the rings competition and was hoping to win a medal in that event. He had previously won the gold at the 2013 European Championships.

Said was brought to the Rio Hospital where doctors immediately scheduled him for surgery to repair and reinforce his broken leg. The gymnast was diagnosed with an open tibia and fibula fracture that required an immediate operation. According to the doctors, the operation went very well and they said that can be back on his feet quite soon. Said himself has had a positive and thankful attitude about the whole incident,

"It really warmed my heart - it helped me and raised my spirits," said the gymnast about the outpouring of support he has received from his fans. He noted that he will soon go back to the arena "to cheer on my friends because the competition hasn't finished yet. And I can add to the support with my blue, white and red cast. Come on France!"
