Sacramento Kings NBA 2014 News: Coach Michael Malone Fired After 11-13 Start

The Sacramento Kings fired coach Michael Malone on Sunday after the team's head failed to "live up to expectations of ownership," according to reports.

Aside from what the King's front office "expected" of the coach, Malone was ousted because of the "philosophical differences between" him and the management, USA Today reported.

"The firing was an absolute stunner on its surface, as the Kings have won just 28 games in each of the last two campaigns yet were on pace to win 38 games this season," the news website stated in their report.

"The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because the firing had not been announced as of late Sunday. Assistant coach Tyrone Corbin will be the interim coach and is expected to have a chance to succeed in the job, but the people with knowledge of the situation said the Kings are expected to eventually hire a new replacement," the site went on to reveal.

ESPN.com meanwhile wrote that longtime head coach George Karl is the one rooted to replace Malone's now empty seat.

King's General Manager Pete D'Alessandro had worked with Karl during his days with the Denver Nuggets, the site pointed out. The GM is also said to be "extremely fond" of Karl's style.

The sports website also included in their report Sacramento's up next game this Tuesday, which as said, will be against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Kings and OKC are tied at 10th place in the Western Conference this season.
