Sam Champion, weather anchor for "Good Morning America" on ABC, is engaged to be married to same-sex partner Rubem Robierb.

The announcement was made Friday, with many fans surprised to find out their weather man is gay.

All of Champion's fellow GMA anchors congratulated the 51-year-old.

Robierb is a Brazilian fine-arts photographer based in Miami.

The couple plans to wed later this year in Miami.

Same-sex marriage is not legal in Florida. In 2008, 62 percent of voters approved a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage and civil unions. Florida is among more than 30 states where voters have approved a ban.
