Samsung Exceeds Expectations, Earning $7.4 Billion in Q3 2012

Samsung exceeded many market analysts' expectations for the third quarter of 2012, reporting earnings of $7.4 billion.

This makes the company the world's top technology firm, which is due to the strong sales of Samsung's Galaxy range of smartphones, including the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3.

The company also reported that its earnings from July to September have doubled from what they were last year, showing significant growth in a short period of time.

Samsung reported its results hours after Apple Inc. Samsung did not confirm the amount of smartphones that were shipped during the quarter; however, it is estimated to be around 58 million. Apple reportedly shipped around 26.9 million. Apple's numbers reflect the release of the long awaited iPhone 5.

Samsung's greatest player in the midst of its Q3 earnings has to be the Galaxy S3 which is estimated to have shipped 18-20 million units in that quarter alone. The device launched back in May of this year and has been Samsung's most successful smartphone to date selling twice as fast as its predecessor the Galaxy S2.

Samsung is expected to unveil the new Nexus 10 tablet at a Google media event set to take place on Oct. 29.

This information was confirmed when the user guide for the device was leaked revealing some details.

There will be a Samsung logo located on the tablet's backing and specifications on the device include a 10-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 and Android 4.2, Key Lime Pie.

This media event will be the first time Google will introduce the public to the latest Android software that succeeds Android 4.1, JellyBean that launched alongside the Google Nexus 7 tablet back in the spring.
