Samsung Galaxy A8 May Be the Thinnest Samsung Smartphone Yet

Samsung may be close to unveiling another smartphone for the U.S. market and if reports are true, it may be the company's thinnest smartphone yet. The smartphone which may be the Samsung Galaxy A8, has already passed through the Federal Communications Commissions (FCC) and the Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center or TENAA. This raises expectations that the handset maybe coming sooner than later.

Another report on a French website NoWhereElse included a video of the device, together with details about the new phone's specifications. This also supposedly indicates it may be launched soon.

The video shows a phone that is similar in design with the newer Samsung smartphones so no drastic design change is apparent. What is notable however is how thin the device is. It is reported to be only 0.23 inch or 5.9 mm thin, making it the thinnest Samsung has ever released. Its thinness is showcased in the hands-on video.

Despite its thinness however, the handset's rumored specs are also impressive. Its display will be a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution and 386ppi. Under the hood, it will have a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and 2 GB of RAM.

Internal storage will be at 16 GB, which is expandable through a microSD card. Its main camera is rumored to be a 16 megapixel one. Its battery will have a 3,050 mAh capacity. Out of the box, it will run on the latest Android Lollipop 5.1 and will be eligible for software updates to Android M.

The Galaxy A8 is an improved version of the Galaxy A7 which was released early this year, but not in the US. Given that the device passed through the FCC, it is expected to be launched in the U.S. soon. Although these reports have yet to be confirmed by Samsung, some experts are expecting its launch soon, before Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 5 in September.
