Samsung Galaxy A9 Specs Release Date Rumors: Next 'A' Series Phone May Come In Early 2016

Samsung is better known for its premium flagship phones and phablets, like the "S" series and the Note Series, but according to a report in Digital Trends, the company's "A" series of phones were the first Samsung devices that were made of premium materials such as metal. The flagship devices followed suit afterwards.

The "A" series started with the Galaxy Alpha, and followed by the A3, the A5, the A7 and the recently released A8 and according to the report, the series have become well-selling devices especially among consumers who are looking for high-end specs for a mid-range price.

If reports are true, Samsung may already be working on the next generation of the series, called the Galaxy A9. According to the report, the upcoming device is a good "mix of mid-range and high-end specs." It may not have the same high-end specs as the company's flagship devices, but it does have its premium feel because of the materials used in its design.

The report cited a leaked infographic about the device which basically compared the previous devices in the A series, the A5 and the A7, to the upcoming A9. The infographic showed that the Galaxy A9 will sport a 6-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixels resolution. Under the hood, it will have a 1.8 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 chipset, paired with 3 GB of RAM. Internal storage is pegged at 32 GB.

Camera-wise, the device is touted to have a 13 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel selfie camera. It will be powered by a huge 4,000 mAh battery and will also be equipped with a fingerprint scanner, Samsung Pay supper and Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.

Another report about the benchmarks, however, said that the phone would have a different display size, pegging it at 5.5 inches, and that its processor would be a 64-bit octa-core one but still with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 chip.

When it comes to the upcoming phone's design, the report said that it will continue with the use of premium materials such as aluminum and will remain to be thin. The Galaxy A8 was only 5.9 mm thick.

In terms of the device's release date, the report speculated that it may be coming in the next few months, like the January CES 2016 Show. Its predecessor, the Galaxy A8 was launched in July 2015.
