Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 vs Sony Xperia Z2 Specs Review: Price, Features Comparison

Samsung has a great track record when it comes to launching supersized smartphones with impressive displays and specs. This holds true for the Korean company's 2013 release, the Galaxy Grand 2, which looks a lot like the Note 3.

Meanwhile, Sony has also gone into the phablet market with its Z series, and the Xperia Z2 delivers what it promises—it's fast, stylish, and powerful.

Design:
The Galaxy Grand 2 takes its design cues from the Note 3 with its mock leather back with stitching detail. It measures 5.78 x 2.96 x 0.35 inches and weighs 5.75 ounces. The handset is available in black, pink, white, and gold.

Meanwhile, the Xperia Z2 is similar to its predecessor with its glass front and aluminum band along the edge of the phone. It's also waterproof and you can submerge it in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes at a time. The handset has almost the same dimensions as the Galaxy Grand 2 as it measures 5.78 x 2.89 x 0.32 inches and weighs 5.75 ounces. It's available in black, purple, and white.

Features:
Both phones have a 5.2-inch display, but the similarities end there. The Xperia Z2 has the better resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels versus the Samsung phone's 1280 x 720 pixel count. Sony claims that the display uses the same Triluminos technology as its Bravia TVs, which makes colors more vivid.

The Sony phone also has the advantage when it comes to the cameras. The Xperia Z2 comes with a 20MP rear facing camera and 2.2MP front facing shooter, while the Grand Galaxy 2 has an 8MP rear camera and 1.9MP front facing camera.

The Sony phone is powered by quad core Snapdragon 801 processor backed by 3GB of RAM and runs on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat. The Grand Galaxy 2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip set and also runs on the Android KitKat.

As for storage, the Galaxy Grand 2 comes with 8GB of internal memory right out of the box which can be expanded up to 64GB with a microSD card. The Xperia Z2 comes with 16 GB internal memory and can be expanded up to 128GB.

Price:
Off contract, the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 costs $347.99, while the Sony Xperia Z2 costs $409.
