Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime Will Get A Value Edition

If recently reported leaks are correct, the hugely popular Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime may be getting a Value edition soon. Samsung is known for coming out with various variants of their phones, especially the ones that are selling well. The Grand Prime has gained popularity because of its LTE functionality and 5MP selfie camera for a price within the $200 range.

The report claimed that a recent leak on GSM Phone Arena based on one of the site's readers point to a slightly tweaked variant of the Grand Prime with a Spreadtrum SC8830 processor, which is said to be combination of a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A7 chipset, a Mali-400MP2 graphics processing unit and 1 GB of RAM. It will definitely have an advantage over its previous 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410.

An earlier leak claimed that the new variant's processor will be a 64-bit quad-core Cortex-A53 Marvel PXA 1908 processor. Both reports are, however, unconfirmed.

The yet unannounced variant, called Galaxy Grand Prime Value Edition is said to include 8GB of built-in storage capacity, an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. These are basically the same specs with the original Grand Prime. The battery is also the same, with a 2,600 mAh capacity.

In terms of OS however, the Value edition will supposedly run on the Android Lollipop, compared to the Android Kit Kat on the original model. The new variant will also still have LTE functionality.

The report also cited that GSM Phone Arena supposedly compared the performance of the two phone variants, comparing them head to head in terms of processor performance. Looking at the scores of each phone – the score that GSM Phone Arena gave for the Snapdragon 410 processor and the score that the reader submitted for the Spreadtrum SC8830 chipset – the comparison came out in favor of the original Qualcomm processor.

The report however says the difference in the phones' operating systems may have some bearing on the results. Nevertheless, if these reports prove to be true, the slower processing power may also mean a lower price point for the new variant.
