Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs. Samung Galaxy S3

August 30, 2012|9:24 am

With the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 yesterday, the decision to buy a new Android-powered smartphone will be a little more difficult for customers as the selection has improved significantly.

The Galaxy S3 has ruled the year thus far moving millions of units, but Samsung now has given the public another device worth checking for that might overshadow the S3.

Judging strictly from a hardware standpoint, the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 are even in some aspects, with both devices featuring a quad-core processor. However, the Note 2 comes with 2GB of RAM while the S3 only has 1GB.

Both devices feature the same 8-megapixel camera and come in three variants holding 16GB/32GB/64GB of internal memory.

The Note naturally has a larger display that measures at 5.5-inches while the S3 sports a 4.8-inch screen. Both of them are HD Super AMOLED, providing the user with crystal clear picture at 720 x 1280 pixels resolution.

The battery on the Note 2 is more powerful at 3100mAh. The S3's is just 2100mAh.

The Note also comes with Android 4.1, JellyBean pre-installed and the S3 runs Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich and should receive the JellyBean update sometime next month.

The Note also differs as it comes with the S Pen accessory that has custom made apps available for it. The Galaxy S3 is a top-of-the-line smartphone with no other special features aside from what a normal user would expect.

The Note seems to be for customers looking for something innovative and exciting while the Galaxy S3 is for those looking to purchase a top-of-the-line smartphone with all the bells and whistles.

The smartphone-tablet hybrid also might be better for those looking for a great device to use for their jobs. Both are great buys, but appeal to different types of customers for different reasons.
