Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Ice Cream Sandwich Update Review

AT&T's 4G LTE Skyrocket variant of the Samsung Galaxy S2 has finally been upgraded to Android 4.0.4, Ice Cream Sandwich, and it seems that it was well worth the wait.

With the software originally being released on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in November of last year, Skyrocket owners had to wait a little less than a year to enjoy some of the software's newest features.

The update brings the 4.0.4 build of the ICS to the smartphone. It allows Skyrocket owners to have access to new features such as facial unlock and panorama picture taking.

It also changes the home screen, making all of the fonts slightly bigger, while at the same time giving everything a crisper appearance.

Surfing the internet now seems to move a bit quicker along with navigating through the device. A speed increase is definitely noticeable and small improvements have been made to some of the applications including Gmail and the Browser.

The facial unlock seems to run relatively smooth, whereas on the HTC One X, it was slightly harder to aim the camera in the right place in order to gain access to the smartphone. The feature works as efficiently on the Skyrocket as it does on the Galaxy Nexus.

There also does not seem to be any bugs in the update. So far, everything runs as smooth as it did when the device was running Android 2.3.

However, there have been some issues with obtaining the update as the Skyrocket's battery needs to be significantly charged before Samsung Kies can install it.

The best thing to do would be to fully charge your battery before attempting to bring Android 4.0.4 to your Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.

Other than that small issue, the update definitely improves the smartphone's performance, and is definitely worth downloading if you're a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket owner.
