Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Release Date, Specs and Price Rumors: MCW 2015 Event Expected to Launch Device

Samsung is expected to unveil two devices at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Sunday, March 1. The highly anticipated Galaxy S6 is rumored to be released on said date, as well as a radical Edge version which features a curved screen.

The Galaxy S6 Edge is reported to be one of the most innovative and ingeniously designed handsets around, as the device will have two edge displays—one down on either side of the device. Other than that special detail, little is known about the specs of the S6 Edge, but tech fans speculate that it will closely resemble that of the Galaxy S6.

SamMobile suggests that the phone will run similar software to the Note Edge but with additional features. For starters, users will reportedly be able to choose which side is the main edge panel based on whether one is left handed or right handed. Furthermore, a feature called Glance Lighting will supposedly light up the edge area when one gets calls or notifications. One will also be able to assign colors to favorite contacts so it's easy to know who's calling via the color of the edge.

One caveat to buying this device is its price point. According to a source at one of Samsung's mobile carriers in Europe who spoke to Ars Technica under the condition of anonymity, Samsung is launching both the curved and normal Galaxy S6 at high prices.

"Our source, who has seen Samsung's new devices in person, tells us that the mid-level 64GB curved Galaxy S6 will cost carriers $1,076, with the top end 128GB model priced at $1,189—which is more expensive than the comparable iPhone 6 Plus," said the website.

The same source also said that the Korean company is having supply issues for the curved display, which could mean that the handset will be in very short supply when it launches.

For the non-curved Galaxy S6, it will reportedly cost $849 for the 32GB model, $963 for the 64GB, and $1,076 for the 128GB model.
