Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Specs: Curved Edge Device is Manufacturer's Most Expensive Smartphone to Build

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is the best new device at the Mobile World Congress a month ago, and there are a number of good reasons why.

First of all, it boasts not just one, but two curved edges that provide more functionality and features for its consumers.

And of course, the device packs the best specs in a Samsung smartphone, just like the Galaxy S6.

However, according to a report by GSM Arena, the Galaxy S6 Edge could be the most expensive smartphone Samsung has ever built.

In the report, the S6 Edge costs $290 to build based on its bill of materials (BOM), and that's for the 64GB edition bound for Verizon. That price does not include expenses on software, distribution, marketing and other relevant expenses.

That makes the Galaxy S6 Edge even more expensive to build than any of the two iPhone 6 smartphones released later last year. In the report, the iPhone 6 BOM costs $247 while the iPhone 6 Plus is priced at $263.

Comparing the Galaxy S6 Edge to Samsung's previous flagships, the Galaxy S5's BOM costs $256, while the Galaxy S4 is priced at $244.

The GSM Arena report indicated that the most expensive part of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is its dual curved edge screen that amounts to $85 in terms of BOM.

However, it is still unknown whether the curved edges indeed provide more flexibility in user experience, or are mere gimmicks to come up with a cool-looking smartphone.
