Samsung Galaxy S6 Release Date: New Flagship Fails to Meet Sales Expectations in Home Market?

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge are two of the biggest names in the Android market today. Earlier this month, the two devices went on sale in Samsung's home market, as well as other selected countries worldwide.

However, while the reception for the two devices is very high, a new report states that the Samsung flagships have not done well in South Korea, its home market.

According to a report by GSM Arena, Korea-based news site Yonhap News, there were in fact 300,000 pre-orders for the two high-end devices before they were launched in the country. However, the report indicated that Samsung has only been able to sell 200,000 units until now.

In the report, the reason for the lower number of sales is probably because some network carriers in the country are not offering flexible subsidized plans and contracts for the two devices.

As a result, consumers who do not have enough money to pay for the full amount are left with no other choice but to wait.

However, the report mentioned that the low trend could soon change once network providers offer more subsidies for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

"We expect sales will improve soon, as the mobile carriers decided to increase subsidies on the Galaxy S6 series," said a local phone retailer.

Before the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge were released in the market, the Korean-based manufacturer earlier stated that it expects the two devices to sell 70 million units this year.
