Samsung Galaxy S7, S7 Edge Specs Reported to Include Waterproof Feature; Edge to Have Bigger Battery

Barely days away until the official unveiling, the Internet is heating up with rumors and leaks about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. According to a Tech Times report, a listing on an import-export tracking site indicated that the new devices will be waterproof, which was a feature present in the Galaxy S5.

The report cited a listing on Zauba which revealed that both devices will have components that are listed as waterproof, such as a waterproof mic, SIM tray and tape. Both devices will reportedly be using the same components. This will make the new flagship phones stand out when comparing them with their predecessors, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, which did not follow the trend set by the Galaxy S5. When the Galaxy S5 was released in 2014, it was the only other phone brand aside from Sony that offered the waterproof feature.

Another report in CNET talked about the Galaxy S7 Edge having a bigger battery than its predecessor, the S6 Edge. The report claims that it will be 38 percent bigger. This is based on an FCC filing which indicated that the S7 Edge will have a 3,600 mAh battery, while having a 5.5-inch screen. This is definitely an improvement on the S6 Edge's 2,600 mAh battery for a 5.1-inch screen. Manufacturers are required to file with the FCC any product that they plan to sell in the United States.

The new devices are reported to be sporting once again microSD expansion slots, which were not present in their predecessors. This meant better storage support beyond the standard 32 GB and 64 GB internal storage of the devices.

In terms of color options, it has also been reported that the phones will come in four color options, which are black, white, silver and gold.
